This is the fourth week I’ve participated in this blogging meme. This week Preeti has given us Entrance.
Now to begin with I was really stumped this time. But then I had an idea.
The Netherlands has a lovely hidden tradition. The hofje is commonly a square with houses on each side or a narrow formation if buildings. In the middle a private shared garden or courtyard is created. These enclosed housing squares have been a long established housing tradition.
Originally they were alms houses created for communities of women. There’s more information about them here. hofjes
In some towns guided walks visit hofjes to give the opportunity for people to experience this unique private space.
So here is the entrance to one such hofje.. I can’t reveal what’s inside as the garden was closed when we passed by.
