What’s new on the Plot: saving seed!

AWESOME UPDATE THANK YOU FOR SHARING HAVE A BLESSED DAY LIZ

Green Lizard's Blog

This year, in part because of the blogging incentive, I’ve tried to do some new things on the allotment.

We’ve been growing vegetables etc for around eight years. Every year there’s successes with different crops so we’ve always finished the allotment year feeling pleased.

New Stuff

One crop that was important to us was parsnip. It’s hard to get here and expensive. We’ve grown it well on a few years. This year following a successful, if knobby, crop I decided to try something new. Parsnip seed is notoriously fragile. It’s always described as such and seeds don’t last very long. It’s recommended that you buy new seeds each year. So I had an idea.

How about we save some seed from this crop? The parsnip sets seeds in its second year so we let some stay in the ground all winter. They flowered and set seeds a few weeks ago.
